Over 2 Million Works of Art

It’s no wonder why the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a.k.a. the Met, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York City. It’s arguably one of the very top art museums in the world, and some would even consider it a “must see” for NYC visitors.

While most museums specialize in either art or history, the Met does both very well, presenting art and artifacts in a way that “reads like a history book”. It is enormous to say the least and has an outstanding variety of things to see – over 2 million works of art from all over the world spanning 5,000 years of culture.

Walk Inside an Encyclopedia

Being in the Met is like walking around inside an encyclopedia. Depending on your style, you can casually peruse, surveying the visuals, or you can pour over a subject and get really in-depth information.

The Met is gigantic. Even in a full day, you can only see a small part of the museum. If you only have two hours, the Met is still worth it. With works from all over the world and all different time periods, there really is something for everyone.

Tip: You will probably only have enough time (or attention span) to see a few exhibits thoroughly. Look for a map to pick up when you come in to help you locate the exhibits that interest you.
