Jewish Cuisine in New York City

New York City has one of the largest Jewish populations of any city in the world, second only to Tel Aviv in Israel. So it is no wonder that a lot of Jewish foods have become assimilated into the New York, and even American, cuisine.

Most of the foods generally associated with the Jewish culture were brought by Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. Besides bagels and deli meats, other foods with Jewish origins that are prevalent in New York City are the knish, matzo ball soup, and smoked fish.

You don't have to look far to find good Jewish cuisine. Two of the most famous Jewish delis are Carnegie Deli in Midtown and Katz Deli on the Lower East Side. Zabar's, a store on the Upper West Side has a huge selection of traditionally Jewish foods.
