New York Yankees vs. New York Mets

New York City has not one, but two Major League Baseball teams to root for. The New York Yankees and the New York Mets are two of the best known names in baseball.

Both teams play games at home in New York City throughout the summer. The Yankees play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and the Mets play at Citi Field in Queens. Both stadiums are accessible by public transportation.

New York Red Bulls

Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls play all summer long at their arena in nearby Harrison, New Jersey. Soccer is a great spectator sport with tons of action and the ticket prices are quite reasonable. The stadium in New Jersey is accessible by public transportation from Manhattan.

US Open Tennis Tournament

US Open

August 26 - September 9, 2013

At the US Open, the best players in tennis face off at one of the biggest and most exciting tennis events of the year. The US Open is one of the four major tennis tournaments that comprise the Grand Slam.

The matches are played on hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York City. The tennis center is accessible by public transportation. US Open 2013 kicks off in late August and games are played daily for two weeks.

Women's Basketball

New York's WNBA Team, the New York Liberty, play May through September at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The venue is just a short hop on public transportation from Manhattan.
